The 2022 team was planned as a community education team, but we had a last-minute change in plans. The Dominican Republic took a direct hit from Hurricane Fiona the night after we arrived. We knew this was a possibility, and prayed that God would keep us safe and flexible. We were safe in the mission house, and Pastor Isidro had a generator so we had fans to cool us down at night. We shifted gears and quickly became a disaster relief team. After the storm passed, we collected all of the fallen fruit in the compound so it could be distributed to the neighbors in the surrounding barrio. Then we kicked into clean up mode. Juan, one of our Dominican brothers, showed us just how efficient a machete can be in the hands of an experienced user! Jamie found what might have been the only chainsaw on the island in a nearby ferreteria and HIS purchased it. First, we cleaned up the compound and then we moved out to the batays. We did get a chance to do some community education on prayer, handwashing, oral hygiene, CPR, "Helping Friends in Need" and of course, Children's .
